I just wanna know why, why does registering a domain name ( .com, .net etc ) cost like 60 bucks a year ( USD41.67 )?

And about their web host it cost like a month and they give very limited bandwidth and web space, the worst of it some even wants you to pay like bucks for PHP and additional for 1 sql database?

Why can’t singapore web host be like yahoo or something? unlimited web space, bandwidth, domain database… whatever

I’m an expert with publisher but i know absolutely NOTHING about html coding. I thought it would be simple to upload my site. I can see my homepage but can’t click on any links i created in it. I need to create a web site, but I have very little web design experience. It is for a government program, so it can NOT be done through hosting sites that provide user-friendly tools.

I need a way to quickly create a website, but which can offer the following aspects:

~users need to search 100-150 pdf documents (research summaries) available on the website (can not use google or yahoo search, must be non-commercial). It would be best if this could be done like an advanced search engine or even online catalogue with several categories (author/researcher, date, insitution, topic, etc)

~calendar with email reminders to those who sign up (but we can not use a commercial prodcut like yahoo or google calendars)

~slides shows of photos, possibly sorted by project / person / year (similar to pdfs)

I don’t have the time to get up to speed with the graphics aspect required to make a Dreamweaver website look professional. Would InDesign work?

I also would like to sell on e-bay and use a combination of dropshippers & items from storage unit sales, estate sales etc. I have the time and capital to get started & I recently attended a seminar (storesonline) that in my opinion was a scam. I am having problems getting this to work. Every time I try to upload my site, I get an error telling me the server has timed out. I can’t find any documentation on Yahoo’s site related to their support of Microsoft Expression Web, but I can’t imagine that they provide zero support. Any thoughts or suggestions?

1. if i register a domain, is that mine to use no matter who does the page HOSTING? for ex: if I register a domain with yahoo, and my ISP gives me free hosting, can I connect the two?

I registered my domain with yahoo.com; my host is awardspace.com, a free provider. I don’t want to use yahoo’s forwarding (standard or masked).

So should I do one of the following:

Change the name server with yahoo?
Create an A or MX record?
Transfer the domain registration to awardspace?

Right now my domain could be www.mydomain.com and yahoo transfers it to mysubdomain.awardspace.com, which appears in the address bar. I’d like the final result to be www.mydomain.com, and ideally, I’d like to keep the registration with yahoo. Your suggestions would be appreciated.

I’ve searched Yahoo re: web hosting, all I can find are links to Yahoo Small Business. I’m not running a business, I only want to host a few web pages and be able to share photos (via linking) on various servers.

My experience with Yahoo’s Geocities is that it doesn’t allow remote linking. Can I migrate the web pages I have on Earthlink (my old ISP) to my att.net or Yahoo accounts? Is there some other Yahoo service that allows some free hosting space, enough to construct a few pages and that allows remote linking?

I am really disappointed at yahoo’s web hosting. they are using the 1.x version of apache, and i think that is causeing me a lot of trouble lately. my scripts run perfect on other servers, but they dont do it all well on yahoo. whatdo you think i shall do? leave yahoo just like that?

1] I don’t spend my time on Yahoo answers a lot, and usually talk about pets. Or football.
2] I came here for an impartial view. Because anytime I search for "impartial web host reviews" all I find are ads.
3] I am honestly looking for an answer. So if you have one, please leave one. Otherwise stop speculating on my "motives".
