I am not sure what would my connection string be like on my asp.net website:

These are the information that I can get from my server host:

(I am using MS SQL Server)

Server info:

Host Name: mssql123.websitename.com (or the IP address)

Server Login: login_DB
Server Password: xxxxx

My empty database in server:

DB name: ar_cub
DB login: ar_DB (no password provided)

Now I need to create my connection string to be able to connect to my database.

I assume it should be something like:

mConnection = new SqlConnection("Server=’mssql123.websitename.com’;Database=ar_cub;Trusted_Connection=True;Integrated Security=SSPI");

Or maybe I should put my db’s username/password as well as the servers username/password? How?

I am setting up a web page on my home PC running windows xp pro and the built-in IIS server or apache http server. I have to use port 8080 (http alternate) as my ISP told me that they block port 80. I have the web server listening on 8080 and router setup for port forwarding to my PC on 8080 as well. Everyone can see my pages with no problem from the outside (Internet or WAN) but when I type in my web site address from the same computer (web server) I am unable to view my web site. The error I get is "cannot find server" "The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings."
I can get to my site if I use http://localhost:8080 but I want to be able to use my internet name… Thanks in advance..
I have tried adding several entries in my HOSTS file but none seems to work.
I am using DDNS with www.no-ip.com. I also have their system giving me a redirect to port 8080 so that noone has to enter the port number at the end of the internet name. It all works fine from the outside but nothing from the my actual PC (web server)..
If I connect my PC directly to my cable modem so that the IP address is assigned to my network card, it all works the way it should (LAN & WAN). Behind the router is when it does not work. I have also had the ISP remove the MAC address so that it can be assigned newly to my router or my PC nic but no difference.

I have been researching web creation software and shopping cart software. According to TopTenReviews.com, Web Easy Professional is the top rated website creation software. Whereas, Shopsite Pro is the top rated shopping cart software. First off, what is the difference? Second, I am looking to create a website where I can sell my products. My knowledge of html is limited. I am looking to create a website that has a home page, then links to contact information, products, an about us page, a link in the top corner for a shopping cart, etc. I will also have to charge sales tax for all sales and would like to be able to accept more than just PayPal. I want to be able to accept all credit cards. I’m at a little of a loss at where to start and as to which software would be unnecessary to purchase. I would hate to buy software that I wouldn’t even end up needing. Any suggestions would be helpful!! Thank you so much.

P.S. I originally looked into doing a flash web site/cart but it would be too costly to have designed by a professional. I would like to be able to have full control over the design, etc. So paying someone to design my site is out of the question.

Also, I’m currently using hosting with GoDaddy and I wasn’t too happy with their Website Tonight program. It was too slow and wasn’t very efficient when it came down to it.

Is mister.net truly a legitimate website and hosts well and efficiently without pop-ups? I read some where that they are able to advertise pop-ups on your site in their policy but they advertise that they don’t. Has anyone used this site for their website to host, I know the regular version of it is free and I wanted to use it. Thanks in advance!

I need a free webhost that supports image maps…i.e. one that has the Apache mod_imap module installed. I’ve been Googling the last couple of days, but none of the free web hosts I found allow image maps! I want an image map, so I can have a cool forums sig, which will have different links in different parts of the pic.

Can anyone please help?

Thanks Ron, but actually, I am not referring to HTML in this case. I am actually trying to use BBCode, and to do so, I have to have a .map file which contains the coordinates of the image I am trying to create an image map of. All free web hosts that I have found so far allow uploading of this .map file, but do not have the "Apache mod_imap module" installed on their servers. You can Google that term to see what I’m talking about. Consequently, though I can link to both the image file, and map file, the script will NOT work because that module is not installed.

Actually…nevermind Googling it.

So all I need is a free web host that has that module installed on their servers.
I tried 000webhost, but they don’t have the Apache mod_imap module installed on their servers…or at least responded negatively when I asked for support, telling me basically that they don’t offer any help for creating scripts…and that was after I CLEARLY told them that all I needed was the direct URL to an uploaded .map file, stupid people. So no, that free web host sucks too.

So I have been trying to find a decent web host, that offers

User based web site with an email alert system for events (Races) sent out to people who subscribe to be alerted on the days the registration will open.

Software:
-Apache, Send Mail, any Database, Ajax based web site, message board, web crawler to watch race web sites for changes(site specific).

Hardware: HP Prolient Server, Generic web hosting, Static IP from Comcast Business class.

Functions: Profile Creation, HTML email alert, Message board for them to chat about the event, and the html email will probably have one or two Ad-Based pics within it.

Am I missing anything? What would you guys recommend to add, software to use, best way to do this on the cheap.

Hello all. I do my own web hosting for a few personal websites I run. I’m upgrading my server and am thinking about switching to Linux and running Apache (I currently run Windows 2003, but have an upgrade to Windows Server 2008 through Dreamspark). Since both Linux and Windows server 2008 are free to me, there is no benefit to Linux other than it will be a little more secure and less vulnerable (yes it is legit because Microsoft gives free software to students through Dreamspark). The only thing is that Apache doesn’t have a GUI and I’d like to use a GUI interface. Also, I’d like to host numerous websites with the one server (IIS does this without a problem, not sure about Linux though). Any thoughts or input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!
