What was the violation? No reason given.
Details of Violation: If you are using Apache to host your site just go to the logs section. If it’s shared hosting log into your site with ftp then cd ../logs and download the files there. If you are on a dedicated host it depends on where your apache conf file tells apache to put the logs. This is different on Linux, windoze, BSD, etc. Even under Linux it’s different depending on what distro. If you have control panel or plesk you can just log in and view your logs. I have a shell script I used to use that downloaded my logs dailly and put them into a DB sorted by which server and what kidn of page hit it was. There are also free log analyzers if you are using Apache as your web server and Linux as your home OS. If you are running a dedicated Linux host you can install these and view the results from windoze machines as web pages. Reading others post. Alexa is not going to be remotely accura

They are only accurate to represent a small fraction of web users who adopt the toolbar and find it compatable with thier web browsing. I was rather disapointed.

I am going to start two websites very soon. My web host offers two domains so does this mean I can have two websites with one plan? Also should I chose Linux hosting or Microsoft hosting? I will use PHP and Java in both of my websites. And I am choosing 1&1 if it makes a difference.

I am trying to install the web server now using this guide: http://www.freelydifferent.com/self-hosting/lamp-for-linux-apache-mysql-php/
Before I started, I set up putty, fowarded port 22 and 80, configured the firewall to allow access through those ports and set up a domain with dyndns.
Well, installation went well, and I got the error that the guide said I would, however the pid are different numbers. That probably isn’t an issue though right? I’m expecting p id will be based on systems rather than somethind standard.
The guide then goes on to say type this:
sudo echo ServerName localhost >> /etc/apache2/apache2.conf
or in my case replacing localhost with the domain I registered at dynsys.
However, I get the following error:
secure.hostgator.com Host Gator provides Shared, Reseller and Dedicated web hosting solutions. Our services are designed for both beginners and professionals. All of their shared plans include a 99.9% uptime guarantee, 24/7 support and a 45-day money back guarantee.
Linux Journal presents: Setting up an https server in Apache is easy. This tutorial covers how to create and sign your ssl certificate as well as how to configure the web server.
I’m used to working with linux (apache) servers, but now I own an offsite Windows 2003 server running IIs6. I seen the help files, but they confuse me and I dont really know where to start to be honest. When i go into the IIS administrator, it says everything including ‘webserver’ is running, but i’m unable to access the default web pages with my browser, i tried both my server IP and ‘localhost’. I’ll also have to set up nameservers, php, mysql, etc…but first i wanna see the default web pages load in a browser before i get to far in it. The server came with one IP, i ordered another because NS nameservers require 2. I plan to use this server to host a ‘halo’ game, as well as multiple web site….i considered a hosting business to help pay for the server. Any and all information would be appreciated. If i can’t figure out how to use the IIS, which i rather would, i’ll just install Apache and do it the old fashioned way. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
I dont know what to put for the shebang line. I need to upload the perl file and html file so my instructor can use it.
I am using hostingspot.com
No diea if its linux or unix like
I am using them as CGI scripts. I have been putting them in the CGI bin.
I want to buy 5 different domains. I am not a computer expert by any means, but I want to have 4 of the 5 redirect to one site. Question 1) Do all five need to be hosted? 2) When purchasing from the domain wholesaler, and I want to use their hosting, do I accept the Windows hosting or Linux hosting, when I am using an online web builder, or if I decided to build a site using publisher.
I would pay someone to do this but I am trying to keep costs down on this project.
What is in your opinion the best web server like Linux version out there?
I’m currently running Linux Mandrake 10.2 and am having trouble making Apache host websites out of my Linux Server, Ive tried getting to it through another browser via its IP address but nothing (wont even ping it)happens, says no server availabel?? What should i do?
I remember once i had a web server app that allowed me to create a domain name w/o having to pay/register it. and it did work.
I am now thinking of setting up a mail and web server using a linux system. Now when i set up linux it asks me to create a domain name. now if i pick a name like www.myname.com will it host my site? I will be using Apache Web Server Project.
And if i do get it to work, are there laws about this? I know i can server a site using my IP address but i think i can make up a domain name also. like i said i did it once a long time ago, using a Macintosh.
Also if i do git it to work do i have to use the "www." and the last part can it be more than 3 cariters?? for example:
<< "www.my_domaine.madman/", and can i replace the www??
ok, like i said i did get i to work a long time ago.and to top it off i had a dial up connection..
Why did it work then, and why wont it work again now, and i have a broad band connection
I have my own computer with PHP, MySQL, Apache, Filezilla, and Mercury installed and it works fine. I already have a website at a remote hosting site and it works great except it is a shared server and often very slow. I wanted to move all of my website that uses PHP, MySQL and Apache to my own computer because 1 I get a ton more space, 2 I barely use it, and 3 there is a local computer store in town that I think would be able to provide the internet and DNS-stuff for my computer. I want to know what the requirements are. I have Windows XP, 256 MB of RAM, 1 55 GB and 1 8 GB harddrive, and 1.3 GHz (i think). I mainly want to put it on my computer because I can do anything with it, including mail which i couldn’t use with the other and plenty of other things.
Edit: The harddrives are actually (one) 55 GB hard drive and (one) 8 GB hard drive, with a total of 63 GB. I think I have an extra 128 MB or RAM, or maybe even 256 MB, so I think I’m ok or close in that area. I am not hosting the server at my house, there is a PC store and I am probably going to have my server there with them providing the Internet. I know Linux is better, and I am probably going to get their help in installing Linux soon.
I need to make my Linux Hosting (hosted at Yeahhost.com) into a Virtual Private Server. Is that possible?
I found this link, I was wondering if this could do something.

Or do you know any places to get really really CHEAP VPS hosting?
I have used Homestead for years, but need a chance,
I am looking for a WEB HOSTING company that has many options, and not alot of this file can’t be used, etc.
I want to be able to either place my own template, web page I create and edit in the site builder the service offers or Build a new site with the Web Services.
Please help
What is the best one out there that won’t cost me a arm and leg?
I appreciate your help. Thank you
What is better Linux OS or Windows?
I do not know a thing about Linux, but at HostNed they recommend Linux Hosting Package.
Do I need any special software, or does it work the same?
i use freezti now… http://axtellarts.coolpage.biz and i have an old comp i’d format with a version of linux and apache to do this for myself but i lack some no how and detail. the pc last had windows 95 i believe and i have cable internet and would only run what was needed. any help would be sweet. does anyone have the answers i seek?????????????
We currently have a hosting company that looks after our website, I have found out that they are running Windows based Server. My question is should a website provider/hosting really be running Windows server or do respectable Hosting companies run Linux. I just need information like the cons of having windows environment.
Hi. I’m planning on buying a cheap but decent laptop that I can use to make my own web hosting servers. What are ideal specifications for a computer that I will use for this? Cpu, Memory, all that stuff. I’m probably gonna use linux to host the server.
Please take note I am asking the specifications for a webhosting COMPUTER. Not a webhost for my own website. I want to make my own webhosting company.
Ok so I got Apache, PHP and MySql installed on my Linux machine. Apache works (I can access the base directory of my server at http://localhost/ ). I even installed MediaWiki with extensions and stuff.
I registered a .co.nz freedomain from freedomain.co.nz. Now I just want to know how to make the whole thing accessible via the *internets*.
I think its something to do with Apache’s config files, dunno how. I’ve got a dynamic IP, btw.
I am tinkering with a linux box, and I am trying to setup an in-house intranet. I want to be able to setup ftp accounts for example with hard-drive size limits. I would like the user to be able to add/delete his or her own ftp users also.
If you could point me into the right direction that would be great.
I am not sure if I should be reading up on Apache to perform this or more on linux or both.
Does anyone know…
FREE web hosting, here are the server requirements :-
- MySQL 4+
- phpMyAdmin (MySQL Administration Tool)
- PHP 4+
- GD Library enabled
- ionCube loader
- mod_rewrite Apache
Preferably a Linux server, whatever that means :S
It must NOT Display ADS
I had one, with 000webhost but it wont let me upload the file, so it would be good to have one that understands RAR files etc and has an upload limit over 5MB.
Wanting to give something back, I’m toying with the idea of setting-up a small web-hosting service to provide free hosting for a select few… probably by using sub-domains (e.g. site1.mydomain.com, site2.mydomain.com,…) for each.
The obvious choice would be to set-up a web-server and stuff on one of my own computers, but neither my internet-connection nor projected up-time is good enough.
I was therefor wondering if there are any server-parks that allows me to rent (cheaply) a Linux/Unix server for such a purpose, and manages keeping it up?
I would need Apache, PHP and MySQL for sure, and the ability to add packages of PHP scripts freely. I doesn’t matter too much if the server is specifically to be used for web-services, or if it’s set-up more for general purposes… though the latter is preferable. I basically want "my own" Linux machine — to do with as I please — with a killer connection, and someone to keep it up-and-running.
