Please can someone explain the diff between MY SQL and MSSQL apart from being made by 2 different companies.

Currently I have verizon fios as my ISP. I would like to know the possibilities and what is necessary to have my own small web hosting server.

First, I know I would need to contact verizon and get a commercial plan along with a static IP address.

Here is where my knowledge lacks a bit… Lets say I set up an ubuntu web server (i know how to do that, i have one currently). How would I go about directing domain names at certain directories.
Lets say I have 2 websites set up under apache2. one under home/username1/public_html/ and home/username2/public_html/

Is it possible to get domain names and point them to a different website?

For example.. www.user1.com would point to home/username1/public_html and www.user2.com would point to home/username2/public_html

how would I go about doing this?

I am doing some Python programming and need to use a library called Python Imaging Library [PIL] http://www.pythonware.com/products/pil/ How do I install that on my web hosting server so that I can use it in my Python scripts? I am not allowed to install anything on the server (as far as I understand). I contacted tech support and they talked about the .htaccess file. What is that? I downloaded the PIL file and it contains numerous files; which one do I put in my cgi-bin folder or install? Obviously I am in deep and murky water here, so any help is greatly appreciated.

I have this web application which has to be integrated on hosting server
It has to deployed in apache tomcat plus we have to integrate with payment gateway(provided by local bank) and we will be using Mysql as DB plus Struts.

As i havent done it ever on hosting environment(especialy payment gateway&struts together) Can anybody explain me each and every

I want to make my own web hosting server to host my own site and one of my friend (domain already registerd). I Had hosted my site to a dedicated server but I want to make my own pc as server. I have 1mb corporate pakage of dsl. My own pc having 2.8 ghz core 2 due processor, 1 gb of ram, 1 Tb of hard disk space, Running Windows xp sp2. What’s more I need to make my pc as web hosting server?
