I need to create a web site, but I have very little web design experience. It is for a government program, so it can NOT be done through hosting sites that provide user-friendly tools.

I need a way to quickly create a website, but which can offer the following aspects:

~users need to search 100-150 pdf documents (research summaries) available on the website (can not use google or yahoo search, must be non-commercial). It would be best if this could be done like an advanced search engine or even online catalogue with several categories (author/researcher, date, insitution, topic, etc)

I need a free webhost that supports image maps…i.e. one that has the Apache mod_imap module installed. I’ve been Googling the last couple of days, but none of the free web hosts I found allow image maps! I want an image map, so I can have a cool forums sig, which will have different links in different parts of the pic.

Can anyone please help?

Thanks Ron, but actually, I am not referring to HTML in this case. I am actually trying to use BBCode, and to do so, I have to have a .map file which contains the coordinates of the image I am trying to create an image map of. All free web hosts that I have found so far allow uploading of this .map file, but do not have the "Apache mod_imap module" installed on their servers. You can Google that term to see what I’m talking about. Consequently, though I can link to both the image file, and map file, the script will NOT work because that module is not installed.

Actually…nevermind Googling it.

So all I need is a free web host that has that module installed on their servers.
I tried 000webhost, but they don’t have the Apache mod_imap module installed on their servers…or at least responded negatively when I asked for support, telling me basically that they don’t offer any help for creating scripts…and that was after I CLEARLY told them that all I needed was the direct URL to an uploaded .map file, stupid people. So no, that free web host sucks too.

I want to host a web forum which is free of cost, also where i can put my google ads… can you suggest me any such web site which provide this services?

The cheapest version is about £13.99 a year. You get a free Domain Name Registration, free Domain Name Transfer, £25 free Google ADWords Voucher (what does this mean?) and there is no set up fee. It doesn’t say anything about bandwidth or space.

Could anybody have a look at it and tell me whether it’s worth the price and give me a detailed description (in English!!!) of what I get? I’m very new to all of this and don’t really know what I’m supposed to be looking for.

I have designed HTML web pages, how am I going to publish my web pages? We have reserved the domain name. What I know is either we have our own server, running IIS, Apache or whatever… or we have to find a company to host it for us. Is my understanding is right? What hosting company is good, ValueWeb, Dotster, or even Yahoo?
After we host it, is it going to be searchable on Yahoo or Google?

Does anyone know if there is a inexpensive or free server, besides apache, that has virtual hosting, and is easy to configure. I checked all over Google and couldn’t find anything.

DependableHost.net offers 8.95 for a year….is this too good to be true? Does anyone have any experience with this web host that can help me? Also, is it google adsense friendly?

- The web site is going to have members and members can add some notes to be remembered as if is selected weekly, daily, etc (Like Google Calender !)

- So it is supposed to the web site will be very active every hour of day.
Searching the notes and if some notes returned to be sent, the web site will send it to each concerning client.

So I just order an unmanaged VPS hosting. I would to install GNOME and VNC on the server I order since I need to run a game server on it.

The server OS is Ubuntu and the distro is fredora. Where and how do I start installing both of these softwares on the server I order? I tried google but it I’m lost.
