Recently I have become interested in trying to make my own website. Whithout knowing how anything works I just bought a domain name and have no idea what to do. I don’t know what anything means or how anything works. Is there any website, book etc that simple and easy to understand that will teach me the basics???? Please help.

I’m making a website and need to know if I can just load a webpage i created to a domain name I purchase. Is it absolute certain that i need a web host?

I really need to find a reliable web hosting site that is cheap, because my boss won’t pay much more than 4 bucks a month. I need it to be able to download sites off of Microsoft Publisher 2007 and it needs to be simple to use (because I will be running it, and I’m only 13). It also needs to come with a domain name.

So I already design a website and I have bought a domain name and now I was planning to go buy a webhost but I dont know how I will use this domain name I have..can you help, thanks guys , any help is appreciated.

Im trying to get started hosting my "own" web site, not off someone elses like lunarpages or godaddy. I have registered my domain name, but how do I upload files to it. Is this what apache is for? Like if I tell apache my domain is www.mydomain.com, will it act as a server for that domain and let me upload files to it? Right now I have it set to localhost as the domain name so I could test it out on my own computer. Is this what apache is for or am i mistaken? Thanks for the help

Can Any one tell me step by step details to setup apache Web server and host my web page.

I’ve been designing websites for a few years now, but have never designed one for anyone else. Now I have people wanting me to design sites for them, and I don’t really know what to do.

Do I have them buy their own hosting, or just have them pay me monthly to cover their hosting bill?

Do they need to buy their own domain name, or do I add that to the bill also?

As I understand it, in order to create a website you must first register a domain name and buy a web space.

Having a registered domain name allows you to have a simple url you choose, like www.example.com, instead of something like www.geocities.com/example.

The web space is where you store your html, css, etc files.

If this isn’t a correct understanding please correct me.

So my first questions: If you register your own domain name, but want to use free web hosting, can you make your url direct the user to the files saved on the free webhosting? In this case, after accessing the website will your registerred domain name still be in the address bar, or will the webhosting address be visible?

Second: Can you recommend any good web hosting sites that don’t have banner ads?

Third: If you answered positively to the last 3 questions, is there any concievable reason why someone like me, creating a small low traffic site, would regret paying to register a domain name and not paying for commercial web space?

previously i asked the following question that how do i get free web hosting and web space, and i got some answers mentioning that there is no such free hosting of your own web site. Of course there are some organizations that will provide free hosting and free web space but at the end of your domain name they will add their domain name i.e "www.mysite.theirsite.com’. so they told that in order to have a web sites of your own without their names at the end, one has to pay some money. so now what i am asking you people is "PLEASE TELL ME THOSE ORGANIZATIONS THAT WILL PROVIDE HOST NAMES AND WEB SPACE AND HOSTING FACILITIES FOR LOW COSTS ( i.e CHEAP RATES) so please inform me those who will charge low costs for hosting the web sites, and who will charge lesser money than any other organizations for registering the hostname to me. I remember once i had a web server app that allowed me to create a domain name w/o having to pay/register it. and it did work.

I am now thinking of setting up a mail and web server using a linux system. Now when i set up linux it asks me to create a domain name. now if i pick a name like www.myname.com will it host my site? I will be using Apache Web Server Project.

And if i do get it to work, are there laws about this? I know i can server a site using my IP address but i think i can make up a domain name also. like i said i did it once a long time ago, using a Macintosh.

Also if i do git it to work do i have to use the "www." and the last part can it be more than 3 cariters?? for example:

I want to register for a domain name and also host my website. There are several cheap options available that throw in free POP email etc etc, and then there are some well-known websites that are a tad costly and provide no extra features. So which one should I go with?

I have designed HTML web pages, how am I going to publish my web pages? We have reserved the domain name. What I know is either we have our own server, running IIS, Apache or whatever… or we have to find a company to host it for us. Is my understanding is right? What hosting company is good, ValueWeb, Dotster, or even Yahoo?
After we host it, is it going to be searchable on Yahoo or Google?

Hi, I am using BSNL (india) Dataone broadband service thru ADSL router (SmartAX MT841). I have installed NetServer (consist of Apache, MySQL, FTP Server & Mail Server). But whenever I am typing my IP or DynDNS domain name in the browser (on the same PC or on other PC), it is presenting the ADSL modem’s configuration page (login reqd).

How to solve it? Can anyone help me?
